What is Herpes Zoster: How to recognize and how to get cure

When you hear of herpes zoster it may make you just freeze since it sounds like a sexually transmitted disease! Luckily, herpes zoster isn’t a sexually transmitted disease, but it is still something you should be aware of.  Herpes zoster is also known as shingles.  If you have had chicken pox in your lifetime, then there is a chance that you can get herpes zoster.

After you have chicken box, the virus lays dormant near the nervous system area of your body.  Researchers from Greece are not sure why some people have this virus awaken in their bodies.  When it is awaken, you will get a very itchy and painful rash on your body.  These usually occur along the torso area, but have been known to spread to other areas of your body.   It is important to get help immediately if you have herpes zoster because you can be contagious to those who haven’t had the chicken pox before.  Also, herpes zoster has been reported to cause deaths in older individuals.  In Australia in 2016, there was reported 27 deaths caused by herpes zoster. If you have this don’t take it lightly.

Because of the prevalence of herpes zoster, the government has created an immunization that you can take to help protect you. Unlike others, which medical professionals recommend getting at earlier ages, the herpes zoster vaccine is recommended for older individuals. Getting herpes zoster and getting severe complications rises more when a person gets older in age.

If you have herpes zoster, your doctor can prescribe you medicine that can help clear it up and elevate the pain. It is important to remember that herpes zoster may stay around for up to three months once you get it!   This is the worst complication you can get from herpes zoster.  A burning pain where the rash was located can be felt for months after you are feeling better.

If you have herpes zoster that is around your eye area, you will need to seek treatment immediately.  When the virus is along those nerves, it can cause permanent eye damage!  Another side effect of this horrible, itchy mess is that you can experience pain longer than what was stated above.  Some people with this virus claim to have pain and itching in that area for years after their herpes zoster is cleared up.

If you believe you have herpes zoster, seek medical advice immediately.  Especially if you are around children who haven’t had the chicken pox yet.  This virus is horrible for them, and it could cause serious side effects if you don’t get medicine to clear it up.

I’m struggling with a postherpetic neuralgia caused by a bad shingles that started three months ago. I’m 67 and i never experienced debilitating pain like this.

As i said three months ago I had a recurrence of herpes zoster. The illness struck the right side of my face, from the gengives to the eyes, with an impressive pain to trigeminal nerve. I cured this relapse with gabapentin, valaciclovir and hydrocodone acetamin to relieve the pain. I had the majority of blisters from lips to the right cheek, but pain spread to ear and my eye. After the disappearance of skin symptoms pain persisted and my doctor said that herpes zoster damaged a nerve.

Since then it was a terrifying ordeal. Throbbing pain in the right side of my face, difficulty speaking and even my facial expression has been compromised by the neural damage. I’m using a cream made of hot pepper that relieves some pain along with tegretol, the drug that has given me the most results. I feel drowsy most of the time and I stay often at home because of the dizziness and tiredness.

When this bad disease passes I will vaccinate myself against herpes zoster. Zostavax will reduce the chances of getting shingles and to develop postherpetic neuralgia. Had I been informed of this vaccine today I wouldn’t be fighting to heal from Herpes Zoster.

I have had herpes zoster, or shingles, for several years. It interferes with my quality of life every day. I have headaches and am tired and have trouble at my job. Sometimes the rash is so painful and uncomfortable that I have trouble staying alert. I have trouble sleeping. I wish there was a cure for this problem.

I remember one night several years ago when my wife and I had spent the evening dancing and were feeling very romantic. We cooed into each other’s ears in the cab ride home and barely made it out of the elevator as we tore each other’s clothes off. She passionately kissed me as ran my hands over her body. In removing her underpants I started to kiss her body lower and lower. As my tongue wound its way around the curves over body and down to her legs, I felt something rough on my tongue, not the soft skin I was used to. In that moment, without any lights on or being able to determine anything else, I knew what was going on. It was my old nemesis, Herpes Zoster. All intimacy was immediately lost, all sense of ecstasy that had been there was gone. This was not ok, but this was the toll of Herpes Zoster.

My mother has had this condition for years. She usually has a flair up every 12 to 18 months. As an 80 year old woman, who already has other health issues, this is very debilitating for her.

I have to really monitor my health on a day by day basis. This strain has been hard for me and my family. There are multiple medications which need to be taken as well as multiple doctor’s visits every few weeks. Hopefully, the end result will be good. I feel like a burden on my friends and family.

I was surprised and embarrassed when I was diagnosed with Herpes Zoster. It was the last thing I expected to get and it’s not the type of thing that just disappears overnight. After keeping it all inside, I did join a support group. We meet in person every once in a while but I learned a lot by going online in our private chat group.

This man suffers from herpes zoster, a terrible rash condition also known as shingles. Shingles can be very painful as well. It has affected his sexual relationship with his wife. He had it bad for many years then his condition got better. However, this past year the condition worsened again. He took steps, although it doesn’t say what those steps were, to get better after suffering again. He found a solution on his own without a doctor and is hopefully living a normal life now.

  8. Lucas Fisher says:

All I can say about Herpes Zoster is that its terrible. I’ve had it for four years now and it comes and goes. Sometimes it doesn’t bother and other times when it flares up is excruciatingly painful. The rash and blisters are very annoying. Just recently I’ve found a new way of dealing with Herpes Zoster. Now my life has changed, this time for the better.

  9. Theodore Horne says:

I got shingles about a year ago. My doctor called it Herpes Zoster. Anybody who has had chicken pox can get this viral infection, and it’s hard to explain how terrible it is. It starts with this blistery rash on your sides that is so painful it feels like your body is on fire. Your doctor will give you some topical ointment and antibiotics, but it sticks around. Even after my rash cleared up, I was in so much pain. I highly recommend getting the shingles vaccination if you can.

  10. Connor Smith says:

I suffered with it for many years until I found out what Herpes Zoster was. Now in my 40’s, I don’t have to live with it anymore. About 5 years ago my doctor was finally able to help me.

  11. Finn Matthews says:

Herpes Zoster is officially the shingles virus, it is generally in older adults and it is wise to get vaccinated due to this. Some younger people may contract it as well.

  12. Elijah Campbell says:

I have dealt with this condition since 2010, as much as I want to say that I have cleared it up, I know this condition stays with you and can flare up at any time again. But knowing the signs and symptoms can help alleviate the pain and not let it control your daily activities.

Suffering from herpes puts a strain on even the best relationship. I have been suffering for 3 years and still experience flare ups. My long term goal is to be outbreak free so I can enter into a loving relationship. This condition really impacts my emotional wellbeing.

3 months ago, I went to my swimming class and noticed that my ribs hurt and a lot. I thought, Did I pull something? Did I
scrape my rib cage against the pool’s wall or something? After class, I went home feeling pretty exhausted and weak.
I noticed that my rib cage was swollen and Herpes Zoster is no joke friends. The rash itself wasn’t too terrible, but the horrific nerve pain made my head spin. It felt, and I remember thinking this very clearly, like someone burning, punching, and cutting me at the same time. At one moment in the depths of pain, I thought, “I won’t survive if this lasts more than a few days and my god grace after taken the proper treatment and I got recover from herpes zoster and now am perfectly alright.

  15. Edward Fern says:

I was very surprised when I was diagnosed with Herpes Zoster. I always thought things like that afflicted other people. I felt guilty, that I had done something wrong. While I told my girlfriend right away, it took a long time for me to discuss the treatment with her.

  16. Cody Fry says:

Herpes Zoster are very painful. I am at risk for contracting them because I had Chicken Pox when I was a young child. There is a vaccine now for people over 50, which is highly recommended.

  17. Patrick Morris says:

My best friend contracted Herpes Zoster in college. It triggered her migraines and presented itself as a rash on her back. She was unable to participate in the sport we played for a little while due to the potential for it spreading as it is highly contagious.

  18. Michael Colling says:

Herpes Zoster or Shingles as it is more commonly known affected me last year. It was a mild rash across both my torso sides but it was much more painful than any other rash I have had. It took well over a month for the pain to subside to the point where I could participate in athletics again because it was simply too uncomfortable.
