It’s one thing to talk with your doctor about medical problems, but when you drop by the local pharmacy to fill your prescription you are exposed to another level of exposure. Embarrassment is a strong motivator of human behavior and it can be difficult for members of the older generation to expose their potential shortcomings to strangers.

The internet has been a huge boon to our society in many ways, but it has revolutionized shopping habits. In the grand scheme of things, online shopping has had more of an impact on opening borders than any other behavior. It has also, unfortunately, led to an increase in cheap knockoffs or copies being sold as authentic. Normally, this would be a case of caveat emptor, but it becomes an issue when it comes to medications or products that affect your well-being.

Legality
Personal importation of prescription medication into the United States is illegal. Although the FDA has never prosecuted an individual who imported a medication for personal use, the law says it you cannot do it.
That, of course, doesn’t stop people from importing medication. It just means they are willing to risk the possibility of having their medication impounded when it comes through customs.

Over the Counter Versions
Neither Pfizer, the manufacturer of Viagra, nor Lilly, the manufacturer of Cialis, have released the patents they hold on their medications. Generic versions of the drugs are not legal to be imported into Australia. If a shipment of the generic versions of these drugs is stopped by customs, they will be impounded and the buyer can face legal repercussions.
The chemical compounds behind Viagra and Cialis, however, are known and copying the formula to make generic drugs is standard practice in parts of the world that want the medical benefits without having to pay the cost of research and overhead that the major corporations have.
Just because the formulas are known, doesn’t mean that is what you will be getting if you order generic versions of drugs online from a different country. Many parts of the world look at medication manufacturing as a way to make money by fleecing wealthy Americans.

Research, Research, Research
To paraphrase the old real estate saying, getting as much information as you can is the most important part of ordering Viagra or other medications from outside of the country. There are ways to get your medications from outside of this country, but you need to be careful and thorough.
